Monarch Art Camp
ages 6-11
At Salt Creek Butterfly Farm we enjoy sharing our love of art and nature with students.

What happens at Monarch Art Camp?
Every morning we search our milkweed garden to discover tiny monarch eggs. We hand feed baby caterpillars with the milkweed leaves collected from our garden. Ater the caterpillars grow big and chubby they form a chrysalis. We move them to the emergence case where they make their most amazing transformation. They emerge as wet winged adult butterflies in the morning, and usually by afternoon they are moved to our indoor habitat where they drink nectar and lay eggs of their own. After a few days in our indoor habitat, we release them back into the wild where they'll enjoy the rest of their summer. The entire experience forms the basis of our daily art projects.

Where will we do our art projects?
Sessions will take place in and around our bright, new agricultural tent.

What kind of art projects will we do?
Summer art classs can include drawing, painting, 2-dimensional design work, photography, casting, printmaking or creative writing. Age appropriate projects will be selected for each class. All projects are based on the patterning, coloration, life cycle, symbolism or behaviors of butterflies and are rooted in the basic principles of art and design.

Who is going to Monarch Summer Camp?
Our tent will be home to approximately 100 caterpillars and butterflies at any given time, but can only accommodate seven students.
