Did you know our two flight houses are not used to “keep” adult butterflies?
The light open space of a flight house encourages butterfly mating and egg laying in the most natural conditions possible. After a few days of egg-laying, our butterflies are released to live wild and free in the great outdoors.
Our flight houses are the most idyllic summer spots imaginable. In fact, our summer children’s program uses our backyard flight house to nurture our creativity.
Butterfly habitats differ from butterfly gardens –
“Herding caterpillars” is as easy as putting a fresh plant in close proximity to scattered caterpillars.
Taking advantage of their natural behavior, we watch them amble over to the tastiest spot all on their own.

Legends and myths represent the willow tree as a symbol of healing and vitality. Our sacred willow was designed by New York living willow artist, Bonnie Gale. It is a place for meditation and hope, muse to the poet in each of us.
