Worm Tea!
If you don’t have a little worm farm (kitchen scrap composter) already, I HIGHLY suggest adding one to your home or apartment. I keep one in our preschool classroom. The children chop up and add their leftover fruits and veggies. My daughter keeps one in her downtown Chicago apartment. If we can, ANYONE can.
Why would you want to?
Worm castings
If you buy worm castings at the store, expect to pay $20 for the 4 lb bag.
They eat your leftover fruit and veggie scraps. They change cocoa bark (available online or at hydroponics stores) into magnificent compost in just a few weeks, the worm castings. If you buy worm castings at the store, expect to pay $20 for the 4lb bag.
Worm tea
- 5 lbs of worm castings (one bin from our indoor worm farm)
- 10 gallons of water
- 1 T. organic molasses
- A bag with strings (got a large organza bag at a craft store)
- A fish tank type bubbler (pump and air stone)
- A big bucket
Bag up the worm castings, put it into a large bucket w the water and molasses. Run an aerator into the mixture for 24 hrs.
USE IT RIGHT AWAY. I use a watering can and douse the leaves as well as the soil. It can be used full strength or diluted by 50%.
If you purchase organic worm tea, expect to pay over $25/quart!
